Tomorrow, January 8th, would have been the 77th birthday of Elvis Presley. Happy Birthday, Elvis! Tours in Palm Springs is offering a tour of Elvis Presley’s Palm Springs honeymoon house at 1350 Landera Circle. Elvis and his then-wife Priscilla retreated to this Palm Springs honeymoon hideout after their Las Vegas wedding in 1967. This is what the LA Times had to say about it:
Elvis Presley was born Jan. 8, 1935, an important date for fans who will be celebrating what would have been his 77th birthday this year. And what better place to start than a tour of the unusual Midcentury Palm Springs home he once lived in.
The Elvis Honeymoon Hideaway, as its called, at 1350 Ladera Circle was the place where Presley and then-wife Priscilla retreated to after their Las Vegas wedding in 1967. The furnishings and memorabilia didn’t belong to Presley, but the house has been restored with him in mind.
In honor of his birthday weekend, special guided tours of the home the King leased for just one year will be held on the hour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday. Tickets cost $25 and can be bought at the home’s website or by phone at (760) 322-1192. (Tours are arranged year-round by appointment only.) A Saturday birthday concert at the house featuring Elvis-look-alide Ted Torres and Bobby Brooks Wilson, son of R&B and rock singer Jackie Wilson, has sold out.
Aside from the Elvis connection, the home comes with an architectural pedigree. Developer Robert Alexander and his wife, Helene, built the home that consists of four circles on three levels that was featured in magazine spreads and became known as “The House of Tomorrow.” The couple died in a plane crash in 1965.
